In Maryland, as in most states, you may not leave property directly to you pet.
This is because the privilege of taking property under a will or trust is afforded to “persons”, and not “pets”.
Although you may not leave property directly to your pet, you can bequest a sum of money in your will to someone who has agreed to care for your pet after your death, someone you trust to provide the care you want your pet to receive.
You should include instructions in your will or trust specifying the type of care and treatment you want provided to your pet.
